Short answers to the questions people ask most before they travel. For more detail, read Plan Your Trip and Getting There.
Can you stay overnight?
Yes, at the camps. The most common packages run Friday to Sunday, 3 days and 2 nights, with cabins or Bali beds. There is also an eco-hotel at Punta Delgada. See the directory.
Which days can you go?
The 2013 resolution only lets private and tourist boats arrive on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Check the current rules with your operator.
How long is the boat ride?
From Higuerote, about 3 hours by sport boat, 4 by standard launch and 6 by passenger yacht, according to operators. In a choppy sea, 3½ to 4½ hours in a fast launch. Details on Getting There.
Is there fresh water?
Camps advertise drinking water and fresh water for a quick shower. If you go independently, bring all the water you need.
Is there electricity and phone signal?
Camps run a generator so you can charge your phone, and one advertises wifi in its cabins. Ask your operator what it offers.
Can you fly to the island?
No. Landing by private and commercial aircraft is restricted under the 2013 resolution. The way in is by sea.
When is the best time to go?
The wind is strongest from January to April, ideal for kitesurfing, and lightest from August to October, which is also the wettest period. See the monthly table on Weather & Sea.
Is the sea crossing safe?
It is an open-sea crossing that operators themselves describe as carrying some difficulty and risk. Travel with operators who carry safety equipment (life jackets, VHF radio, GPS, first-aid kit) and who reschedule if the sea is rough, as some state in their terms. If you get seasick, take tablets before you sail.
Can children come?
It depends on the operator. One, for example, does not take children under 3 or pregnant women because the crossing can be demanding.
Are jet skis allowed?
The 2013 resolution banned jet skis and motorised water sports. Check the current rules with your operator.
What do I do with rubbish?
Take it back to the mainland. The rules require rubbish to be returned in bags, and dumping waste is prohibited.
How much does it cost?
It varies by operator and boat. Packages published in October 2026 run from about US$370 to about US$500 per person for 3 days and 2 nights; Viajes Océano Azul publishes 3 days from US$420. Always check with the operator. More on Plan Your Trip.
